About Addiryan
I came to this as a listener first, and I still think that’s the most important thing about how I play. Years of standing in rooms and forests in Oslo paying close attention to what other people were doing, what worked, what a set felt like from the floor at 2am, long before I ever touched a mixer myself. I only started DJing properly in the last two years. So my relationship with this music was built entirely from the receiving end, and that’s still the position I mix from: what does this feel like to be standing in front of?
I select on energy rather than theory, and genre follows mood, which means a set can start weightless and melodic and end somewhere considerably darker. That’s usually where I’m heading. Breathe, Connect, Smile is the starting point, but the interesting part is what happens after.
What I’m listening for is the goosebump moment. The track that lands through simplicity rather than complexity, the one that opens something up instead of pushing it. Depending on the room, the hour and the crowd, that arrives in completely different shapes, and I’ve stopped trying to make it arrive in only one.
I’m resident at Rave WOD, an Oslo concept where CrossFit meets techno, with sets built to 20 minute training intervals, in daylight, to a sober room. It is about as unforgiving a test of selection as exists. I’m a regular on Oslo’s forest rave circuit, play popup sets around the city, and run Polsefest, a small party concept with friends: low key gatherings, hot dogs, and the right music holding it together. I’ve played chill house at sunset in parks and high energy techno in the trees at 3am, and I’ve come to think of those as different personalities rather than different jobs.
On YouTube I record long form deep progressive and melodic house, each set tied to a specific place and moment. A rooftop in Oslo as the light goes. A mountain cabin in Trysil. A balcony at my childhood home in the cold. A living room at 2am. It sits in the register of Guy J, Marsh, Volen Sentir, Christian Löffler and Kiasmos: patient, warm, built to hold a slow arc across ninety minutes. On SoundCloud I work in the other direction, with deep ambient and hypnotic techno, longer and slower still, made for listening as much as for dancing.
In 2025 I released Waking Up, my first original production. Ambient, choir like, close to weightless. More coming.
